Season 6 of Virgin River is bringing two new key characters to the story.
Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr will appear as Mel’s parents, Sarah and Everett, in flashbacks set in the 1970s.
We can also expect more developments for Mel, Jack, and the small-town gang, according to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith.
What’s New in Virgin River Season 6?
Smith hints that “babies and wedding bells are never off the table on Virgin River.”
Mel and Jack are moving forward with their dream of parenthood while transforming Lilly’s farm into their ideal home.
Season 6 takes place a few months after the Christmas episodes of Season 5, moving into spring, a time for growth and surprises.
Richard Keith mentioned, “Yes, the characters do go through some pretty terrible things, but there’s always a happy ending. It may not be the happy ending they were expecting, but they find their way to a happy place that, in some ways, might be happier than if they’d ended up where they thought they would to begin with.”
Fans love how these characters always find their way to happiness despite challenges.
Who’s Joining the Cast?
Rothe will play young Sarah, Mel’s mom, in flashbacks from around 1972. Sarah is lively and passionate about activism, resisting traditional roles.
Everett, portrayed by Callum Kerr, is a dreamy musician living a carefree life in a VW van until he meets Sarah. John Allen Nelson plays present-day Everett.
The season will feature Mel and Jack’s wedding, new love triangles, and hidden secrets from Mel’s father’s past, taking us back to the 1970s Virgin River.
Returning cast includes Breckenridge, Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Mark Ghanimé, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure.
Expect “new directions” for characters like Preacher, Brady, and Kaia, with Brady volunteering at the fire station under Chief Kaia, who gets entangled in Preacher’s past sins. We’ll also see some familiar faces return.
New to the town is Mel’s biological father Everett Reid, carrying a long-held secret, played by John Allen Nelson.
