Stars Shine in London for Emilia Pérez Premiere
This weekend, Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz traveled to London to unveil their musical crime drama, Emilia Pérez, at the London Film Festival.
The talented group of actors, who brought Jacques Audiard’s vision to life, also received their Cannes Best Actress awards. This award is usually given to one person, but this time it was for a team of women, marking a historic moment. Greta Gerwig, president of the 2024 Cannes jury, was there to celebrate with them.
Gerwig shared her thoughts during the award presentation: “Women together — that’s something we wanted to honor when we made this award. Each of them is a standout, but together they are transcendent.”
In the movie, Emilia Pérez, played by Gascón, is a Mexican cartel boss looking for a fresh start. She turns to Rita, portrayed by Saldaña, to help her escape her past. Along the way, she reconnects with her partner Jessi (Gomez) and meets Epifanía (Paz), adding new dimensions to her journey.
Audiard, the director and writer, felt deeply touched by the actors’ recognition. “I think that is one of the awards that has touched me the most in my entire career,” he said. Their performances make Emilia Pérez unforgettable, highlighting the stories of four unique women.
Fans really love seeing such strong performances from these actresses.
After showing at other festivals like Toronto, Telluride, and New York, the vibrant Emilia Pérez is now France’s official pick for the best international feature at the Oscars. It will be available on Netflix in the US, UK, and Canada on November 13th.
