The Duffer brothers are moving from 1980s Hawkins to the New Mexico desert.
The creators of Stranger Things are working on a new supernatural show for Netflix called The Boroughs. This eight-episode series is created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, known for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
“The heroes in The Boroughs may be older than the kids from Stranger Things, but they are just as endearing. We can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that’s scary, funny, and very touching,” the Duffer brothers said.

The story unfolds in a seemingly perfect retirement community in the New Mexico desert. A group of unlikely heroes must come together to stop a supernatural threat from taking away their precious time.

Who is the creative team behind The Boroughs?
Addiss and Matthews have described working with the Duffer brothers as a “dream come true.”
“They bring the perfect balance of heart and horror to our story. We can’t wait for audiences around the world to unlock the dark mystery buried beneath the sunny facade of The Boroughs,” they said.
The Duffer brothers are also thrilled about this collaboration: “We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time. When they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we knew they had something special.”
Hilary Leavitt will join as executive producer under the Duffers’ Upside Down Pictures banner. Ben Taylor will also executive produce and direct multiple episodes, including the pilot.

Meanwhile, the Duffers are still busy with Stranger Things. Season 5 is coming, a new animated series is in the works, and Stranger Things: The First Shadow will debut in late 2023. An Eddie Munson prequel novel is also coming out this Halloween. Even if the heroes in The Boroughs are short on time, Vecna will make sure the clocks keep ticking.
