Online dating comes with the risk of being catfished.
Kirat Assi thought she found love with a man named Bobby on Facebook. They met in 2009 through their shared Sikh community in London and started as friends. Their relationship grew deeper over time, but meeting in person always seemed impossible. Despite the distance, Bobby’s grip on her emotions became stronger.
When the podcast Sweet Bobby aired in 2021, it recounted Assi’s eight-year journey from that first Facebook message to discovering the huge lie behind their relationship. The story captivated thousands. Now, Netflix is turning this tale into a documentary series titled Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, created by Raw, the producer behind The Tinder Swindler. The show features photos, screenshots, and interviews with Assi and others who witnessed the relationship.
Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare is directed by Lyttanya Shannon and produced by Rebecca North and Kiran Sira.
Fans will likely find this documentary both shocking and compelling.
While watching, I couldn’t help but think about how easily we can be fooled online.
