A decade ago, a show about a talking horse trying to relive his old sitcom days changed adult animation forever.
New Series from BoJack Team
Raphael Bob-Waksberg and his team, including Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company and Shadowmachine, are bringing a new animated series to Netflix called Long Story Short, set to premiere in 2025.
Bob-Waksberg will be the writer, showrunner, and executive producer for Long Story Short. The show is described as an animated comedy about a family over time, dealing with shared histories, inside jokes, and old wounds. “If you’ve ever had a mother, father, sibling, partner, or child, this is the show for you — and by the way, would it kill you to call them?”
In a statement, Bob-Waksberg expressed his excitement: “It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”
BoJack Horseman’s legacy is massive. As Netflix’s first original animated series, it debuted on August 22, 2014, and has been hailed as one of the best TV shows ever. The show, featuring Will Arnett as BoJack, explored deep themes like addiction, ego, and toxic behavior with a mix of humor and emotion. The cast included Todd Chavez (Aaron Paul), Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins), Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), and Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie).
Unlike BoJack’s fictional sitcom Horsin’ Around, BoJack Horseman stayed relevant and gathered a huge following. It paved the way for more daring Netflix animated shows like Big Mouth, Arcane, and Blue Eye Samurai.
Fans love how these shows push boundaries while making us laugh and think.
Long Story Short will see the BoJack team come together again. Lisa Hanawalt, who worked on BoJack Horseman and Tuca & Bertie, will be the supervising producer and design the original art. Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen, also from the BoJack team, will executive produce for Tornante Television. ShadowMachine, known for their work on BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, and Pinocchio, will produce from their LA studio. Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley will be co-executive producers.
While waiting for Long Story Short in 2025, why not revisit BoJack Horseman? Don’t forget the Christmas special! Keep an eye out for updates on the new show.
