Basketball’s first game took place in 1891 at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The sport, which started small, now has a huge following worldwide. By 2023, the NBA had 125 players from different countries, each team having at least one. A new documentary series dives deep into the journey to reach the Olympic stage, showing what it takes to play basketball internationally.
The creators of The Last Dance, including executive producers Connor Schell, Libby Geist (known for OJ: Made in America), Aaron Cohen, and Jason Hehir of Words & Pictures, along with Barack and Michelle Obama, and Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis of Higher Ground Productions, are behind this project. The series will follow top medal hopefuls and emerging stars from the USA, France, Serbia, Germany, and Canada as they prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Viewers will get exclusive backstage views and learn how basketball became a global sport through stories of past legends, with the premiere set for early 2025.
It’s exciting to see how basketball has evolved over the years.
