Prepare your streaming devices — Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire is heading to Netflix soon.
Starting this month, you can dive into the seven-episode first season of this horror drama, along with many other AMC shows, with a couple more arriving in January 2025.
Initially premiering in October 2022, the series reintroduces us to characters Louis de Pointe du Lac and his vampire companion Lestat de Lioncourt. Their dramatic love story, which spans over a century, promises both bloodshed and heartbreak as Louis learns that living forever doesn’t solve life’s big problems but often creates even bigger ones.
Fans are super excited to see how the show has evolved from the book!
If you’re already part of the vampire fandom or just curious, you’ll have questions like interviewer Daniel Molloy. Keep reading to find out more about the plot, the cast, and a full list of AMC shows coming to Netflix on August 19th.
What happens in Interview with the Vampire?
This series mixes horror, love, life, death, and eternity, with a bit of dramatic flair. It revolves around an interview between an aging journalist, Daniel, and Louis, a vampire almost 150 years old. They had an unpublished interview 50 years ago, and now Louis wants to set things straight.
The story jumps through time, showing how Louis, a Creole brothel owner in New Orleans, became an immortal living in Dubai. Starting in 1910, we see his love for his vampire maker, Lestat, unfold through decades of complex romance and moral dilemmas.
What is Interview with the Vampire based on?
Recognize the name? That’s because it’s based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel. The TV show, created by Rolin Jones, is inspired by her book series, the Vampire Chronicles. These stories were also the basis for the 1994 film starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, and Kirsten Dunst.
The show makes some changes: Louis is now a Black businessman from the 1910s, instead of a white enslaver from the 1790s. The queer subtext becomes more explicit, focusing on the relationship between Louis and Lestat.
