The battle with the Fire Nation is far from finished.
Netflix shared in March that Avatar: The Last Airbender will return for Seasons 2 and 3, wrapping up the epic tale. Production has started for Season 2, and we now know who will play Toph.
“We’re eager to collaborate with our actors again and delve into the complex relationships that develop as their journey continues,” said producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani. “We’ll bring iconic scenes to life and explore stories the animation didn’t touch. Mostly, we can’t wait to see our gang back together.”

What is Season 2 about?
The producers are keeping many details secret but hinted that the Earth Kingdom will play a bigger role.
“There’s no war in Ba Sing Se,” they tease, quoting the original series. “Expect more clever plans from Sokka, amazing bending from Katara, Appa and Momo being fluffy, and Aang learning new bending skills.”
They also want to build on the strong foundation of Season 1. “We’ll challenge our characters with more complex obstacles as they navigate a more tangible world,” they explained. “Just like the animated series matured, the live-action will grow too.”
New seasons bring fresh faces.
Who are the new characters?
During Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024, Miya Cech was announced to play Toph, an earthbending master.
What happened in Season 1?
The live-action series retells the story of Aang, a boy who can master all four elements. In Season 1, he wakes up after 100 years to find he’s the last airbender. The Fire Nation threatens the world, having wiped out other airbenders and aiming to conquer the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes. With friends Katara and Sokka, Aang seeks to restore balance.
In the Season 1 finale, Aang and friends stop the Fire Nation from destroying the Northern Water Tribe, but it’s just a temporary victory. Far away, Zuko’s sister Azula conquers Omashu and captures King Bumi. A mid-credit scene shows Sozin’s Comet approaching, signaling more trouble.
“It was really clever to end Season 1 that way,” said Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Fire Lord Ozai. “The writers expanded the show’s universe and created a sense of urgency.”
“Always leave the audience wanting more,” added Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. “Seeing Lizzy as Azula gave me chills. There were so many cliffhangers. I wanted to start shooting Season 2 and 3 immediately.”
He’s getting his wish.
